RSU is currently seeking a talented and motivated PostDoc / Visiting Lead Researcher to join the Bioinformatics Group starting from 01.06.2024.

 

Work Location: Riga, Latvia (remote option possible)

Working Time: 16-20 hours per week, with an option to increase

Employment Contract: For 24 months, with an option to extend 

 

Requirements for the applicant 

  • Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, (Bio)Statistics, (Computational) Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or another equivalent degree 
  • Computer programming skills in Bash, Python/Perl/Julia or Java, and R 
  • Experience with Linux OS, high-performance computing (HPC), and/or cloud platforms (AWS, DNAnexus) 
  • Experience with workflow management systems (WDL, CWL, Nextflow, Snakemake) and containerization (Docker, Singularity)
  • A strong affinity for DevOps engineering practices, including the creation, maintenance, automation, and optimization of interoperable tools and computational workflow
  • Candidates should have a good track record of source code (e.g., on GitHub) and/or scientific publications, as outlined in their CV 
  • Excellent knowledge of English 
  • A team player who can also work independently, with strong analytical problem-solving skills (trial and error) and cross-industry (out-of-the-box) thinking
  • Ability to take the initiative and have strong organizational skills
  • Strong teaching skills to effectively educate and mentor other team members
  • A basic understanding of molecular biology and omics technologies e.g., genome, transcriptome/RNA-seq, proteome, metabolome, and/or microbiome profiling, is a plus
  • Prior experience with multi-omics (e.g., genome, transcriptome/RNA-seq proteome, metabolome, and/or microbiome) data analyses and integration with clinical data (including medical images) using machine learning and/or network-based approaches is also a plus

 

Job Description: 

  • Educate and train colleagues to perform bioinformatics analysis of multi-omics (e.g., genome, transcriptome/RNA-seq, proteome, metabolome, and/or microbiome) data and integrate it with clinical data (including medical images) using machine learning and/or network-based approaches
  • Implement DevOps engineering practices, including the creation, maintenance, automation, and optimization of interoperable tools and computational workflows
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the computational infrastructure
  • Participate in scientific discussions within ongoing projects' consortia and the RSU Bioinformatics Group
  • Prepare research proposals and scientific publications for submission
