Objective

The common objective of the study courses PAK_047 and PAK_049 is, by complementing each other, to provide integrated knowledge in pathology and to form a clinically oriented, logical and scientifically critical course of thought, with particular emphasis on frequent and general pathological processes, as well as clinically significant pathologies related to the reproductive age of women, pregnancy and childbirth, foetus, placenta and newborn pathology. This aspect of the programme should provide the theoretical basis for learning the clinical courses.

The objective of course PAK_049 is:
1. To provide an insight suitable for the midwifery programme into the morphological manifestations of certain, clinically relevant diseases in the context of their pathogenesis, including an insight into gynaecological diseases within the limits of the scope of the programme; in pregnancy pathology; pathology of the umbilical cord, foetal membranes, placenta and perinatal pathology; childbirth injuries and mammary gland diseases.
2. To provide a practical overview of pathology as a diagnostic branch of medicine at a level appropriate to the specifics of the study programme.

Course PAK_047 complements this subject with knowledge of certain general pathological processes and the pathogenesis of certain relevant diseases (including systemic pathological changes in the pregnant woman’s body: eclampsia and related processes; gestational diabetes), as far as possible within the scope of the course.

Prerequisites

Previously acquired knowledge of biology, human anatomy, histology, embryology, genetics, physiology and biochemistry.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the study course, the student will know and be able to reasonably explain the nature, causes and risk factors of the diseases and general pathological processes mentioned in the programme, pathogenesis and expression thereof in clinical processes, laboratory and imaging examinations, possible complications and consequences, outcomes.

Skills

The student will be able to reasonably evaluate the pathogenesis of the diseases mentioned in the programme, relate it to the clinical manifestations and diagnostic basis of the diseases, as well as take practical steps to organise, interpret and critically analyse the tissue examinations required in relation to the overall picture of the disease.

Competence

The obtained competences cover the pathogenesis of the diseases mentioned in the programme and serve as a basis for obtaining the necessary clinical competences for further studies within the corresponding programme.
