Aim

The aim of the study is to analyze the vascularization and postoperative hyperplastic and neoplastic morphological features in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, to correlate them with laboratory findings and using minimally invasive innovative ultrasound methods.

Description

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the most common parathyroid pathology and the treatment strategy depends directly on diagnostic effectiveness. The aim of the study is to analyze the vascularization and postoperative hyperplastic and neoplastic morphological features in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, to correlate them with laboratory findings and using minimally invasive innovative ultrasound (US) methods. The study will include patients who will undergo multiparametric US evaluation of thyroid, parathyroid and neck soft tissues prior to parathyroid surgery: B-mode, color dopplerography, microvascularization (SMI) evaluation, strain-ratio and shear-wave elastography and contrast ultrasound according to a standardized protocol. Hypothesis of the study proposes that multiparameter ultrasonography has a high predicted correlation accuracy with the morphology of parathyroid gland lesions. Contrast ultrasonography as a method can provide new information about the specific patterns of microvascularization with the potential for differentiation between parathyroid gland lesions and other structures in the soft tissues of the neck.
