Objective

to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and understanding of eye anatomy, frontal eye diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal diseases, eye injuries, pediatric ophthalmology, orbital diseases, with special emphasis on the development of the child's visual system, as well as skills to to provide emergency medical care, diagnose ophthalmic diseases, orientate in the principles of treatment and prevention, as well as provide opportunities to continue medical education.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, biology, physics, physiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of the study course acquisition, students acquire in-depth knowledge of the anatomy, physiology of ocular auxiliary mechanisms, etiopathogenesis of common eye diseases, epidemiology, clinics, principles and prognosis of diagnosis and treatment.

Skills

• check visual acuity;
• to examine the fundus of the eye with the help of ophthalmoscopy;
• will be familiar and able to orient with acute situations in ophthalmology;
• examine the ophthalmologist to assess the need for and scope of ophthalmic care.
The student will be prepared for independent work in the practice of general practitioners, as well as will be able to continue further education.

Competence

As a result of mastering the study programme, the student will be competent for independent work with ophthalmological patients in the practice of a general audiologist, as well as will be able to continue further education. The student will be able to know ophthalmic care in the primary care stage and understand the ethical and legal aspects, analytically evaluate the ophthalmologist's conclusion and plan the patient's examination and treatment, as well as interpret the results of vision testing, apply them to a specific clinical situation and link them to the result of the examination performed by a specialist, to apply it to a specific clinical situation and to link it with a common investigation process.
