Objective

To promote knowledge acquisition and to develop understanding and skills related to different emergency situations, which are binding with diseases, trauma and environmental accidents to give knowledge about emergency medicine in prehospital and hospital stage.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, first aid, ECG, basic knowledges in internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, surgery and traumatology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students will be able to:
• identify life-threatening emergencies;
• describe the pathophysiology of life-threatening emergencies;
• apply ECG, laboratory and radiologic imaging to determine clinical diagnosis;
• describe treatment principles in the emergency situation in pre-hospital and hospital stages.

Skills

Students will be able to:
• apply medical equipment in life-threatening emergencies;
• perform emergency care, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
• plan treatment in different emergency situations in pre-hospital and hospital stages, including trauma patient;
• organise teamwork in life-threatening emergencies according to basic life support and advanced life support.

Competence

Competence in patient care, communication, collaboration, professionalism, ethical and legal issues, organizational planning and service management.
