Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Biology according to the secondary school curriculum.
Objective:
• To get a general systematic idea of the structure and functions of the human body; • To form an understanding of human being as a unified system, its interaction with the environment; • To acquire knowledge about the functions and regulatory mechanisms of the human body, as well as to get an idea of the main pathological processes, the aetiology and pathogenesis of the most common diseases; • To acquire knowledge about health promotion, disease prevention and the ability to apply this knowledge in solving problems within one’s specialty.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
For each class, the student has to review the previously acquired material, writing a nutrition diary, discussions in small groups during the classes on problematic issues.
Assessment Criteria:
The final assessment consists of 3 categories: attendance + independent work + final exam grade. Attendance is mandatory (the course is passed with 100% attendance). A rework is an essay about a lesson. Examination method: • short written tests or oral control questions after learning each topic; • final exam: written exam.
Final Examination (Full-Time):Exam (Written)
Final Examination (Part-Time):Exam (Written)
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:After mastering the study course (module) the student will be able to describe the concept of human health; to explain health promotion and prevention measures in cases of the most common diseases; to describe the organisation and financing system of health care; to describe the structure and main functions of the normal cardiovascular system, respiratory and nervous systems, as well as to explain the most common disorders of these systems; will be able to explain such pathological processes as inflammation, hypoxia, tumours, stress, fever, diabetes, dementia.
Skills:As a result of the studies, the student will be able to apply knowledge about health promotion and disease prevention within their competence in very general terms; will be able to use the understanding of the functions of the human body and their disorders to solve socio-medical problems within the team in a very general way; will be able to apply care and assistance methods for people with mobility impairments.
Competencies:As a result of the studies, the student will be able to analyse the bodily functions necessary for human functioning and their disorders, in the context of disability; will be able to plan and develop solutions to socio-medical problems within the team, according to their specialty.
