Construction of new Pharmaceutical Study and Science Complex in Full Swing
On Wednesday, 11 May, representatives of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) management, researchers, and students visited the future RSU Pharmaceutical Study and Science Complex at 21 Konsula iela, next to the RSU Main Building. The group surveyed at how the construction was progressing and were shown around the premises by specialists who explained the floor plans and presented the timeframe for the works.
The new building is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is expected to be ready in autumn.
‘Through investments from both the ERDF and RSU, we are strengthening the university's research and study capacity in the field of industrial pharmacy. This will have a high potential for creating innovative and high value-added products.
The new complex will concentrate world-class pharmaceutical knowledge in one place, which will advance RSU and Latvia towards achieving this goal,’ emphasises RSU Rector Aigars Pētersons.
The complex will include the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the Department of Pharmacology, and the Department of Applied Pharmacy, as well as a research laboratory for finished dosage forms, which is very important for the development of science. The multi-storey building with a total area of 7,151 m2 will house modern study facilities and a world-class science centre.
The building will complement the RSU campus and will be one of the largest and most technically advanced buildings in the university's 71-year history. The price for construction is EUR 8,468,500 (excluding VAT), of which almost half is co-financed by the ERDF.
The facility is being constructed under the project Pharmacy Research Infrastructure Development at Rīga Stradiņš University (Contract No 18.104.22.168/17/I/011), co-financed by the Specific Support Objective 22.214.171.124 "R&D Infrastructure Development in Smart Specialisation Areas and Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of Scientific Institutions" and Improvement of the Study Environment at Rīga Stradiņš University (contract No 126.96.36.199/17/I/006) co-financed by Specific Support Objective 8.1.1 "Increasing the number of modernised STEM, including medical and creative industries, study programmes" co-financed by the project.
