Latvian orthopaedic surgeon Prof. Kristaps Juris Keggi passed away on 5 July 2023, at the age of 88. He was born in Rīga in 1934. During World War II, he fled with his family to Germany in 1944 then to the United States in 1949.

Kristaps Juris Keggi was an internationally renowned expert in hip and knee replacement surgery. His scientific activity was mainly related to total joint arthroplasty and he published over 50 research papers. Since 1987, Prof. Keggi traveled to Latvia every year to perform surgical demonstrations, conduct seminars, give lectures, and provide consultations.

Prof. Keggi was an Honorary Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, an Honorary Member of the Latvian Medical Association, an Honorary Doctor at Rīga Stradiņš University (1997) and the University of Latvia (2009), a patron of medicine, education, sports, and culture. In addition, he was the President of the K. Keggi Orthopaedic Foundation that provides material support for upgrading the qualification of Latvian physicians and nurses in the USA and supports various educational projects for Latvian physicians.
