According to the information published by QS, there was increased in competition to enter this year's medical ranking.

This year, QS rated RSU's reputation among employers to be the highest. In order to enter any of the QS rankings and gain a place in the table, a university must meet certain criteria. One of the most important preconditions is the assessment in the international recognition survey that is provided by representatives of both academia and employers from all over the world.

No less important are an institution’s scientific achievements, which are determined by the number of international publications in the Scopus database, judged by the number of citations.

The QS rankings cover a total of 51 disciplines that are grouped into five broad subject areas. A separate ranking list of the best universities is drawn up for each of these areas. This helps potential students identify leading universities in a particular field.

A total of more than 1,540 higher education institutions from around the world have entered the QS rankings. This year, the QS medical ranking includes 670 of the world’s top universities, which is 20 universities more than last year. The University of Latvia has also managed to enter the QS medical ranking for the first time this year, placing in the same range as RSU. Riga Technical University is mainly represented in the engineering rankings. Thus, three Latvian universities are represented in the QS rankings this year, which has allowed Latvia to rank 68th in the world.

The medical ranking is compiled by QS, a world-renowned higher education company. RSU was the first university in Latvia to meet the criteria and enter the QS World University Rankings by Subject: Medicine for the first time last year.
