RSU shares its experience with senior state officials from Central Asia
A delegation of senior state officials from five Central Asian countries visited the Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 26 June. This visit was part of the First Meeting of European Union (EU) and Central Asian Ministers for Education.
Toms Baumanis, Vice-Rector for Development at RSU, gave a presentation on the University and its rich experience in providing high-quality education to medical students from Latvia and abroad. The delegates were also given a METC tour by the Center’s director Roberts Rezgalis. He introduced the visitors to various modern medical educational technologies that are used to train RSU’s medical and healthcare students. Currently METC is the most advanced medical education technology facility in the Baltics..

"Recently Central Asia has experienced rapid growth and development. RSU has signed a number of partnership agreements with universities in this region. Students from several Central Asian countries, especially Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are studying at RSU. There is a growing need for skilled and knowledgable medical and healthcare professionals. RSU has the expertise and is in a solid position to share its knowledge with educational institutions in Central Asia. Therefore, we look forward to extending our collaboration with this region," said Baiba Petersone, Director of the RSU Department of Academic and Foreign Affairs.
The First Meeting of EU and Central Asian Ministers for Education was one of the events that brought to a close the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This event, attended by senior state officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkemnistan and Uzbekistan, was aimed at strengthening collaboration in higher and vocational education between Central Asia and EU member states. The event focused on issues related to quality assurance in education, accreditation and linking education with employment.
