Objective

To provide knowledge of the regulatory mechanisms of the healthy bodily functions, as well as to develop skills in using functional assessment methods.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of human anatomy, biology, physics and chemistry.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On successful completion of the course the students will have acquired in-depth knowledge of functions of the nervous system and molecular aspects of neural activity. They will be able to use the acquired knowledge in order to master examination and assessment methods of patients’ functional state and basic treatment principles. Students will be able to analyse the simplest physiological measurement results, to explain the role and usefulness of the examination of patients’ functional state.

Skills

On successful completion of the course the students will be able to obtain basic physiological measurements, as well as to apply the acquired skills in computerised data acquisition and analysis. The students will be able to use the acquired knowledge on regulation of neurophysiological processes in addressing clinical tasks.

Competence

Ability to use the acquired knowledge and skills in examination of the patient’s physical functional state and in evaluation of the effectiveness of physiotherapy.
