History

The name of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was first mentioned in the minutes of a meeting of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Latvia on 12 May 1922 in the context that that the former Assistant Professor of the University of Tartu, Jānis Maizīte (1883-1950), would henceforth "be considered to be under the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry". Prof. Maizīte contributed greatly to the development of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Since 1950, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry has consecutively been part of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Riga Medical Institute, the Latvian Academy of Medicine and what is now called Rīga Stradiņš University.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is located at 21 Konsula iela (first floor).
