The Rīga Stradiņš University Foundation
The Rīga Stradiņš University Foundation (Rīgas Stradiņa universitātes fonds) was established on 10 March 2011.
Objectives of the Foundation
- Promote the development of higher education and research activities
- Support the studies of disadvantaged and socially vulnerable young people, as well as various educational, scientific, cultural, health and sports activities
The Foundation is included in the Cabinet Decree No 385 of 08.08.2001 'On Associations, Foundations and International Education and Cooperation Programmes'.
The intention of the Foundation is to raise and maintain the level and prestige of the higher education and cultural activities of RSU, thus the Foundation has established and has been successfully managing various scholarships.
On the initiative of and using the financial resources obtained by the patron and RSU Honorary Doctor Egils Gulbis, the Foundation provides material support to the best students within RSU study programmes Medicine and Paediatrics in the framework of Egils Gulbis Medical Social Scholarship. This scholarship supports young people from deprived, low-income and large families, as well as young people with special needs.
A Basketball and Volleyball Scholarship were established with the desire to enhance and maintain the standard and prestige of RSU sports activities. Supporting youth activities, the Foundation has provided financial assistance to the participation of the RSU basketball team in the European Universities Games, as well as for the organising of RSU Student Volleyball, Floorball and other championships and training camps.
The Foundation has actively participated in promoting science by providing support for the organising of scientific conferences as well as project implementation.
The Foundation has also financially supported the RSU mixed choir Rīga and the Folk Dance Ensemble Ačkups, which have long-lasting traditions; both were founded in 1951. The choir Rīga has had remarkable achievements and received awards in Latvia and abroad, performing compositions and premieres in the Baltic countries not only by Latvian, but also internationally-acclaimed composers. Ačkups regularly participates in Song and Dance Festivals, as well as at various dance events in Latvia and abroad.
The Foundation has, on its own initiative, been active in raising funds for charity within the frame of various events, using the donations for the implementation of its objectives, as well as to support children with disabilities.
Support for Ukrainian Students
To support the victims of the war in Ukraine, RSU has been actively involved in and organised support for Ukrainian students at RSU.
RSU already has considerable experience with international students, which has prepared the University for providing even more young people from Ukraine with the opportunity to study here. RSU is ready to admit Ukrainian youth into the social sciences and healthcare study programmes.
Given the University’s limited resources to immediately be able to support so many young people from Ukraine, RSU calls on companies to donate to The Rīga Stradiņš University Foundation with a targeted donation: "Support for Ukrainian citizens –prospective students, current students, and course attendees at RSU".
The donations will allow the University to cover the costs of studying and offer social security:
- Living costs in RSU student hostels starting from the student’s arrival at RSU until the end of the 2022/2023 academic year;
- Support until the commencement of studies, including the costs of preparatory courses;
- Full coverage of tuition fees for the entire 2022/2023 academic year, Open University courses, or professional development courses;
- Additional stipend in the amount of EUR 280 per month from the beginning of studies at RSU until the end of the 2022/2023 academic year.
