Objective

Acquire knowledge of forensic possibilities in detecting criminal offences and develop practical skills in using these opportunities in criminal proceedings.
Tasks:
1. Enhance students’ understanding of the examination of the dead body and specific character of it at the scene;
2. Promote students’ understanding of the procedure of conducting forensic medical examination, its specific character and issues to be addressed;
3. Enhance students’ understanding of the morphology of various types of bodily injury, the mechanism for their emergence. Develop students’ skills of understanding laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Prerequisites

Prior knowledge is not necessary.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The student has acquired basic knowledge of forensic medicine; the student has knowledge of inspecting the dead body at the scene of the event in accordance with the cause of death; the student has knowledge of the mechanism for occurrence of bodily injuries; the student has knowledge of prescribing forensic examination.

Skills

The skill of carrying out an inspection of the dead body at the scene in cases of various criminal offences; the ability to identify and analyse the mechanism for the development of the bodily injuries; the ability to prescribe forensic examination and the ability to analyse the medical expert opinion.

Competence

Able to independently carry out inspection of the dead body at the scene of the event in cases of various criminal offences; able to determine and analyse the mechanism of the occurrence of the bodily injuries; able to prescribe forensic medical examination and analyse the expert opinion.
