Objective

To give students the opportunity of acquiring basic knowledge of the most common paediatric trauma and orthopaedic diseases, especially those requiring urgent diagnosis and operative treatment, emphasising the specific features of paediatric traumatology and orthopaedics and the main differences from adult traumatology and orthopaedics.

Prerequisites

Normal human anatomy and physiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the study course, students obtain knowledge, which allows:
• to recognise congenital and acquired musculoskeletal pathologies in childhood, define aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnostic and treatment tactics, as well as prevention thereof;
• to define the specifics of paediatric traumatology and orthopaedics and the main differences from adult traumatology and orthopaedics.

Skills

As a result of completing the study course, students will be able:
• to take anamnesis in high quality;
• to perform a general clinical examination of the patient;
• to analyse the data obtained;
• to develop an individual examination plan for the patient;
• to develop a plan for the pre- and post-operative care of the child, formulate possible complications and options for the prevention thereof in the post-operative period;
• to formulate and justify an expanded clinical diagnosis based on differential diagnosis, and formulate treatment tactics (indications for conservative and operative treatment).

Competence

To independently develop a pre- and post-operative care plan for the child, formulate possible complications and how to prevent them;
