Objective

To provide students with theoretical knowledge about the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, principles of drug treatment, problems and prevention options of nervous system diseases.

Prerequisites

In anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, as well as in the symptoms of certain diseases.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After successfully fulfilling the requirements of the study course, the student will have acquired knowledge that will allow:
• to define the causes, pathogenesis, symptoms and treatment options of the most important diseases;
• to understand the peculiarities of drug use in the treatment of mental disorders;
• know the possibilities of combining medicines for different symptoms, the most common side effects and how to prevent them.

Skills

As a result of mastering the study course, students will be able to:
• describe the preparations of pharmacotherapeutic groups;
• to formulate their mechanisms of action, indications and contraindications, as well as side effects;
• substantiate and argue your opinion about the chosen treatment.

Competence

As a result of mastering the study course, students will be able to:
• to use basic theoretical knowledge and competence in general and clinical pharmacology;
• to select the most appropriate drugs in the individualized dosing regimen according to the specific situation, in order to ensure optimal treatment of patients and prevention of diseases at a reasonable cost;
• to use basic theoretical knowledge in pharmacotherapy, combination and substitution of drugs;
• be able to evaluate the risks and benefits of treatment;
• independently obtain, select and analyze information about medicines, their application and use in the treatment process;
• to show a scientific approach to solving topical issues, as well as to be able to orientate in specific literature.
