Objective

To strengthen theoretical knowledge and practical skills on tactical techniques and methods of examination, preservation and removal of various types of material evidence, determination of expert examinations and issues to be addressed therein, as well as the specifics of the investigation of certain types of criminal offences.

Tasks:
1. to promote the application of students' practical skills in the examination, preservation, removal and packaging of material evidence;
2. to promote the application of students' theoretical knowledge in the determination of expert examinations and analysis of the obtained results;
3. to promote the application of students' theoretical knowledge in the investigation of certain types of criminal offences.

Prerequisites

Background knowledge in forensic tactics and methodology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

- Students are able to demonstrate basic and specialised knowledge in Practical Forensic Science, with part of the knowledge corresponding to the highest level of achievements in the relevant field of science.;
- Students are able to demonstrate understanding of the most important concepts and regularities in Practical Forensic Science;
- Students have mastered tactical techniques and methods for examination, preservation and removal of various kinds of material evidence; use of operational information in finding and removing material evidence; assessment of material evidence and determination of expert examination; the specifics of the examination of sites of different types of criminal offences and the analysis of the information obtained; the fundamentals of evaluating the results of expert examinations.

Skills

- Students are able to structure their learning process continuously; to analyse their own level of knowledge and improve it rationally; to select and evaluate sources of literature; and to develop their own scientific and research skills;
- Students are able to demonstrate a scientific approach to solving problem situations, constantly taking decisions and finding creative solutions when solving problem situations, taking responsibility and initiative, doing work both individually and in team, and managing other people's work;
- Students are able to use the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills in formulating and analytically describing the information obtained, the established problems and possible solutions in a particular scientific field, explaining, reasoning and discussing with both specialists of the particular field and non-specialists;
- Students are able to take responsibility for their decisions and actions; to make critically evaluated decisions and find solutions in unforeseen and changing circumstances; to adapt to new situations and be open to change; to take leadership and initiative, and respond to consequences; to comply with ethical standards, demonstrate broad general knowledge and competences. To develop the ability of listening to different opinions.
- Students are able to carry out the examination, preservation and removal of various kinds of material evidence independently while preserving the possible traces on the examined object; to use information in finding and removing material evidence; to carry out evaluation of material evidence and determination of expert examination; to carry out various types of inspections on the site of a criminal offence, taking into account the specifics thereof; to evaluate the results of the expert examination.

Competence

- Students are able to use theoretical knowledge and skills in professional and personal development;
- Students are able not only to offer formal solutions to the problems of the forensic science field, but also find solutions that would serve the needs and priorities of the society (local community) as well as improve public administration in general, demonstrating professional ethics;
- Students are able to independently examine, preserve and remove various kinds of material evidence while preserving the possible traces of the inspection object; to use information in finding and removing material evidence; to assess material evidence and determine expert examination; to inspect the sites of different types of criminal offences, taking into account their specifics; to assess the results of expert examinations.
- Students are able to independently acquire, select and analyse information, to take part in the development of the relevant professional field and find solutions to problem situations in the relevant field of science.
