Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Professional placement is taken by students after the 1st year of studies in companies or organisations operating in Latvia or abroad in Healthcare sector. The aim of the professional work placement is to link the knowledge and skills gained from the program with the real business practice and to develop professional, interpersonal and social skills for the successful career in local and international companies.
The purpose and specifics of the study programme are: - to combine business-focused teaching with latest trends in the provision of healthcare sector to provide students with essential knowledge and management skills to enhance graduates into a management career in healthcare organisations and enterprises; - to ensure acquisition of professional qualification – business establishment executive. The study programme incorporates 2 types of work placements as an integral part of the study programme, thus enhancing the students’ corporate exposure and employability: 1.2.Healthcare Business Management – 6 ECTC (optional, for programme with 90 ECTC credit value) or 18 ECTC (compulsory for programme with 120 ECTC credit value); 1.2. Health Systems Management – 6 ECTC (optional, for programme with 90 ECTC credit value) or 18 ECTC (compulsory for programme with 120 ECTC credit value).
Unaided Work:
Submit written report (15-25 pages, 12 pt font size, 1.5 line spacing) including: - Detailed analysis on company profile, structure and performance; - Report about his/her work duties with the company; - Placement Diary; - Presentation/analysis of a certain project/assignment fulfilled or deeper analysis of one of the functional areas of the company (for example: HRM, Finance, Marketing and sales) – for placement “Healthcare Business Management” - Presentation/ analysis of a certain project/policy analysis of the selected health sector area – for the placement “Health Systems Management”; - Placement supervisor`s evaluation form (Appendix 3) or Reference letter from the company (signed); -Report can include Appendices (tables, graphics, samples of business correspondence, etc). Report Template with the title page is included in Appendix 1. 4.2.2. Prepare presentation with PowerPoint slides (5 minutes) and present the placement in front of RISEBA and RSU assigned committee. Presentation slides are handed in and assessed as part of the Report.
Assessment Criteria:
Student's placement is assessed by: - The company; - RISEBA and RSU committee. RISEBA and RSU committee assesses presentation of the student’s placement report and all the documents submitted in accordance with above stated requirements, company’s references and student’s presentation skills. The final assessment will be based on: - Presentation (40%) - Report (50%) - Company’s assessment (10%) Deadline for Report submission: according to the programme to be approved annually.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Students will obtain knowledge on - company structure, - business process organisation and functioning; - professional duties in accordance with the company profile and needs.- - working with staff members and clients, making appointments, arranging meetings, negotiations etc; -taking decisions within the limits of his/her responsibilities and competence.
Skills:Practical application of knowledge obtained in the study courses, including: - Business communication skills; - Organisational and teamwork skills; - Business analysis and management skills.
Competencies:Competence in the areas included in the placement assignment, including - practical hand-on experience of preparing business research consultancy; - Processing and analysing information within the framework of his/her competence and company’s needs (analysis, summaries, reports, memos, articles, leaflets, notes, etc.)
