- Where is Student Services located?
Student Services is located in entrance hall of the RSU Main Building at 16 Dzirciema iela, Room K-100.
- Can Student Services answer questions about my study process and specific questions about studies at RSU?
Student Services employees will do their best to answer students’ questions and help them. In case we are not able to help you, we will redirect you to the right structural unit that might be able to do so.
- Reference requests and academic transcripts
- How can I apply for study reference?
Study reference is a reference stating your active status as a full-time RSU student and indicating which semester student you are. You can apply for reference via MyRSU portal section “Applications and Inquiries Requests” --> "Inquiry request" and finally --> "Status inquiry". It is issued by Student Services, therefore in case of having additional questions, please, contact Student services directly
- How can I apply for Transcript of Records?
Transcript of Records is a document stating all finished semesters with study courses and their final evaluations. You can apply for Transcript of Records via MyRSU portal section “Applications and Inquiries Requests” --> "Inquiry request" and finally --> "Success Statement request". It can be issued only after successfully completing a semester and all evaluations are published in MyRSU portal section My grades and evaluations.
- Can I apply for Transcript of Records if I have failed semester or have left studies at RSU?
Transcript of Records for students, who have failed semester, cannot be issued. Transcript of Records can be issued once student passes failed course. At the same time, you can apply for Reference letter stating what courses you have passed and what grades you have received. Students who have exmatriculated have to write to studentuserviss
rsu[pnkts]lv to ask for Academic transcript (please note that it is a paid service). - Can someone else retrieve my references or academic transcript on my behalf?
We can give your references or academic transcript to another person, if you have indicated this when you requested the paperwork in question. Please include the name, surname and student ID number/personal identity number of the person who will collect these document. You can confirm your request by sending an email to studentuserviss
rsu[pnkts]lv. The email must be sent from your official student email account, or you can leave a comment via the MyRSU portal. The person indicated in the request will have to present their student ID, passport or national ID card.- How long does it take to prepare the documents I have requested?
Transcripts and reference letters are usually issued within 2-3 working days. Please note that in January, February, June and July it may take up to 20 working days to issue documents.
- I’m requesting a study, or exam leave from my employer and need a statement from the university to verify this. Can you issue a statement like this?
Yes, we can issue a statement to request a leave for studies and exams. You can request it via the MyRSU portal: "Application and inquires" --> "Inquiry request" --> "Status inquiry". Please note that you are required to leave a comment indicating the purpose of the reference letter, so that administration employees know what kind of information to include in the document.
- I am a former student and I need a transcript listing all study courses I attended at RSU. Can you issue this kind of transcript?
Transcript of records are not provided to exmatriculated students. In such cases, only an academic transcript is available, which is a paid service. For more information, please refer to Archive document requests and translations | RSU.
The academic transcript is issued by the study advisor (or by a faculty's record manager, depending by the year of exmatriculation) and may take between 10 working days to one month to be processed, depending on whether it needs to be electronically signed or a physical copy sent by post.
Kindly note that the academic transcript includes only successfully passed study subjects.
To receive an academic transcript, you must write an e-mail to studentuserviss
rsu[pnkts]lv and request it.

- Student ID
- Why do I need a student ID?
Students need a student ID in order to be able to borrow books from the library, enter university buildings, pay for printing and copying, receive a student discount at shops, cafes, etc. You are also required to present your student ID when visiting Student Services.
- What to do if student card is damaged or lost?
You can request a new student ID at Student Services. You will be asked to present another identity document in order to do so (a passport or national ID card).
- When can I renew my student ID?
As long as you are still a student, you can renew your student ID with renewal stickers from Student Services. New stickers for each academical year are handed out every October. A study group need to authorize its group leader to receive the stickers for the entire group.
- Can someone else renew my student ID on my behalf?
Someone else can renew your student ID if you have made an official request. Please indicate the person’s name, surname and personal ID number. Send the request from your official student email account to studentuserviss
rsu[pnkts]lv. The person indicated in the request will have to present their student ID, passport or national ID card in order to receive or renew your student ID.- My student ID card does not work. What can be done?
Student ID could not work because of few of these issues:
- The chip of the card could be damaged - if you put your wallet near the payment terminal when in shops, instead of only using your bank card, the terminal system could potentially scramble the ID cards chip;
- More cards than one is active - if you requested a new card and found your old card, there might be a slight chance that the old card was not deactivated, which would block all of them;
- A faulty card - rarely, but a small chance it could happen.
If you are experiencing an issue with your student ID, please come to Student Services in order to deal with it. We will either make you a new card or fix the issue with multiple cards being active.
- Applications
- Can I send my application via email?
Student Services accepts applications submitted via email. Bear in mind that Student Services ONLY accepts applications sent via your official RSU email account ending in @rsu.edu.lv!
- Where should I send forms, which have to be filled out by university?
All kind of financial aid forms (Swedish CSN, Norwegian Lånekassen etc.), govermental forms (German Äquivalent documents, Finnish Valvira etc) should be sent to Student Services who can help to fill out the form. Please complete all sections relevant to your personal details before sending the documents. Student Services will assist you in filling out any remaining portions correctly.
All other forms you can also submit to Student services and in case they will not be able to fill out certain form then you will be informed where you have to submit form.- I would like to compare and validate courses from my previous education. What should I do?
In what cases can I apply for credit transfer?
You have completed course in RSU Open University You have completed course of another study programme at RSU You have completed course in another higher education institution
When can I apply for credit transfer?
Applications for study course credit transfer can be submitted twice in an academical year - in September and in February. The window to submit the documents lasts till the end of the previously mentioned months.
How can I apply for credit transfer?
- Fill out "Comparison and validation of learning outcomes" form;
- State which RSU study course you would like to credit from an already completed course;
- Attach the supporting documents in English that confirm completion of the course (except RSU Open University course – it is not required to submit the Open University certificate);
- In certain cases, you may be asked to provide a course description and / or additional documents;
- Filled “Comparison and validation of learning outcomes” form together with the supporting documents need to be sent to Student Services studentuserviss
rsu[pnkts]lv for registering.
What happens next?
- Your application will be considered by the Vice-Dean / Deputy Vice-Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Office of International students, according to the Regulations on Validation of Learning Outcomes and Commencement of Studies at Subsequent Study Stages;
- After decision is made you will be individually informed, via the RSU student e-mail address (contains students` ID number and @rsu.edu.lv);
- If the course is accepted, an individual study plan will be prepared for you and your tuition fee will be re-calculated for the relevant study semester, you will be asked to sign a new study agreement on changes to the study contract;
- The accepted grade will be entered in the Student information system during the relevant study semester
Please note:
- The courses completed in RSU Open University are not accepted automatically, you have to apply for credit transfer by submitting an application;
- Credit transfer can only be considered for the current semester`s courses as the study plan is subject of changes;
- If the whole course (all parts) is not recognized from previous education, at the end of this study course an examination for the whole course must be taken.
- Payment information
- Where I can find amount of tuition fee and payment term?
Tuition fee payment must be made in accordance with the schedule set in the Study Agreement. The date stated in the study agreement indicates that money should be on RSU account that date. Delayed payments are applied with the penalty fee is 0,1 % from the amount per day.
- Can I receive invoice of tuition fee payment?
The university does not send invoices of tuition fee payments to students. If, however, required by government establishments from country of your origin, Student Service can issue a status inquiry, where we can include the amount of tuition fee paid for the specified semester.
- Where can I see my payment balance?
Students can check their tuition fee balance online at MyRSU portal "Finance" page.
- Where can I find bank account information where tuition fee has to be transferred?
All bank accounts are indicated in your study contract. Also bank account options are available at https://www.rsu.lv/en/bank-details.
- Does the University accept the payment from third party?
RSU accepts payments for student fees from third parties, including family members. However, the liability for paying fees will always remain with the student – payment of fees will not constitute a binding contract between the University and a third party. A third party shall have no right to demand a refund from the University of any payment made on behalf of a student. When the tuition fee is paid by third parties, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all of the information, as set out above, is included in the payment made by the third party.
- Can tuition fee payment term get extended?
In order to receive an extension for the term of payment of the tuition fee, students must fill in an application and submit electronically via the MyRSU portal, in the "Applications and inquiries requests" section -> "Study process applications" -> "Extension of the term of study fees" no later than by the deadline stated in the Study Agreement. Once received, the management of the university will review the application form and the applicant will be individually informed via the RSU student ID e-mail address (contains students' ID number and @rsu.edu.lv) of the result. Applications for tuition fee payment term extension will not be reviewed after the payment deadline stated in the Study Agreement.
- What happens with tuition fee if course(s) are failed?
Should a student fail a course, the student cannot be transferred to next semester and must retake failed course. In case the student wish to repeat the failed course(s) and continue with studies, he/she must fill in "Free form submission" electronically via the MyRSU portal, in the "Applications and inquiries requests" section -> "Study process applications" -> "Free form submission" indicating failed course(s). An individual calculation for the subject(s) to be repeated will be made as soon as the application is submitted. This calculation along with the tuition fee for the remaining study years will be included in a new Study Agreement for the remaining study period, which will become effective upon resumption of studies. Students should note that the individual calculation and payment schedule upon signing of the new Study Agreement is made in accordance with the most recently confirmed tuition fee. The previous Study Agreement and tuition fees stated before are no longer binding.
- Can I receive refund of unused tuition fee in case of termination of studies or if I have an overpayment?
Should a student terminate studies at RSU he/she is authorized to receive a partial refund of the tuition fee paid by him/her; however, no more than in the amount stipulated by the Study Contract. Each refundable sum is calculated individually and depends on how long the student studied at RSU in the respective semester, when the studies were terminated. Students should note that the calculation for the refundable sum of the tuition fee is made according to terms of the Study Contract, regardless of the number of lectures, classes or other activities held at the University or attended by the student.
- How can I apply for Payment refund?
In order to receive the tuition fee refund, students must fill in the Application form for PAYMENT REFUND and submit it electronically via the MyRSU portal, in the "Applications and inquiries requests" section -> "Financial matter" -> "For refund of study fees". The return of the unused part of the tuition fee can take up to 60 days after the official date of the termination of studies. Should the Application form for Payment refund be received after the exmatriculation date, the refund process can take longer. Student has to provide exact bank information (including IBAN/SWIFT/BIC code) in the application form, so that a refund can be made. Failure to do so will delay the refund severely or prevent it altogether.
- Study process
- How to start using Student Portal (myRSU)?
In order to use RSU e-services for students, use your username (example: 000000
rsu[pnkts]edu[pnkts]lv) and password. The password has to be created when logging into the system for the first time.- How to create (or recover) a password?

- How to login into my RSU e-mail account?
Go to http://webmail.rsu.edu.lv. Enter your username (example: 000000
rsu[pnkts]edu[pnkts]lv). Enter your password used with all RSU e-services and click Sign in.- When the timetables are published?
The schedule for compulsory study courses (Part A) and restricted elective study courses (Part B) shall be published 10 working days before the beginning of the semester. The schedule for free elective study courses (Part C) is published on the 6th week of each semester.
- What I need to do, if I was sick and missed classes?
In order to get justified absence student, need to submit doctor’s certificate stating exact absence period within 5 working days’ time after returning to studies. Doctor’s note must be submitted via MyRSU portal section "Applications and inquiries requests"
-> "Change of status" -> "Application for excused absence" by filling out the form and attaching doctor’s note.Please remember, it is student's responsibility to procure a sick note. If you can't procure a sick note from RSU Health Centre, please get in touch with other GP's. You can receive also a list from Student Support by writing to studentsupport
rsu[pnkts]lv . - How can I retake missed classes?
In order to retake missed classes student must contact according course teacher and clarify information about retake options.
- What if I cannot find classroom or teacher is late?
In case you cannot find classroom or teacher is late you should contact office manager of according department. Department’s contact information should be in course description.
- What if I fail to pass a study course?
If study course has been failed then, accordingly,semester also counts as failed. Student do stay in current semester and during next semester retake failed course only.
A decree has been issued by the Rector that, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, the following fee will apply:

- If I fail a course can I continue studies with my group?
If course is failed then student is not moved to next semester and cannot continue studies with previous group.
- What is Open University?
RSU Open University allows anyone to enrol in the Medicine programme offered by RSU or to individual study courses as a free listener. Study under the same conditions as other students and obtain a document certifying the amount of credit points obtained. - Where can I see all colloquium/test/protocol evaluations?
All colloquium/test/protocol evaluations can be found on E-studies under according study course.
- Where can I see all semester courses and final evaluations?
All semester study courses and the final evaluations are published in MyRSU portal under section My Grades and Evaluations.
- Can I take a semester break or leave studies?
If student has any circumstances why studies cannot be continued, then student can exmatriculate upon his/her own request or apply for Academic leave.
Academic leave is a semester break of studies, when student cannot continue studies due to following cases:- medical indications;
- family matters;
- social matters;
- due to pregnancy, childbirth and childcare.
Please note that in most cases, you will be required to provide official documentation as proof to support your application.
You can apply for academic leave electronically via the MyRSU portal through the e-services section “Applications and inquiries requests” -> "Change of status" -> "Granting, extension, renewal of academic leave for studies after academic leave". For more details see Section 8 of the RSU Internal Rules and Regulations for Studies on academic leave (the document can be found here under the "Studies" tab).* Academic leave shall not be granted if student has failed to complete study courses successfully or has a tuition fee debt, or any outstanding library fees!
- How can I exmatriculate from RSU upon my own request?
Student can get exmatriculated by filling out the application via MyRSU portal section “Applications and inquiries requests” -> "Change of status" -> "Exmatriculation and renewal as a student after exmatriculation". In application has to be indicated date as of which student want to get exmatriculated and as of this date student will get exmatriculated.
- How can I resume studies?
Students, who are exmatriculated, can resume studies within 2 years’ time by submitting an application via portal section “Applications and inquiries requests” -> "Change of status" -> "Exmatriculation and renewal as a student after exmatriculation" not later than 5 working days before semester starts.
- Can I receive Diploma of Medical Doctor’s degree before graduation day?
All graduates do receive graduation documents (Diploma and diploma supplements) only on graduation day.
- In which language graduation documents are issued?
Diploma is issued only in Latvian language. Additional to Diploma, all graduates will receive Diploma supplement both in Latvian and English. Diploma supplement is a document stating obtained degree, official length of programme, acquired courses with obtained grades/credits.

- Where can I find medical services or visit a doctor?
To make a doctors appointment and procure a sick note for your studies, do check in with RSU Health Centre. The staff includes a GP, an infection specialist, a masseur, and a nurse. At the RSU Health Center you can receive treatment in the case of illness or injury, as well as receive advice on the prevention of an illness and information on how to improve your health habits.

Apply for an electronic statement through the MyRSU Student portal https://services.rsu.lv/lv/applications.
Select the section "Applications and inquiries requests" then "Status inquiry request" and finally "Status inquiry".- There, select "Rīgas Satiksme" as the recipient of the Inquiry;
- Select E-mail as the method of receipt;
- Choose the language of the document to be Latvian.

On the premises of Rīga Stradiņš University and its faculties, as well as on the MITC grounds, it is prohibited to park cars without permits, and a penalty may be applied for violations. Students can obtain a permit by applying for the Student Unions lottery. We encourage you to follow the Student Union’s Facebook page, where information about the parking permit lottery will be published yearly.
- What psychological support and self-help resources are available for RSU students?

- What are the smoking regulations at Rīga Stradiņš University?
Smoking is prohibited in the RSU premises and areas used by RSU! The prohibition applies to all parties involved in the operation of RSU, including students, employees, business partners, visitors, suppliers, while they are in the RSU premises and adjacent areas, and to all RSU structural units and units related to the operation of RSU. Rector's decree on smoking ban can be read here.
- I would like to book a room for a study session. How can I do that?
There are silence cabins that can be booked by using a QR code you can find on each of them. Also, open-access rooms are available, when they are not use for lectures and classes. During scheduled study events, reservations will not be possible.
Please ensure that the rooms are left clean and tidy after use!

- What should students with functional limitations (e.g., dyslexia) do if they need adjustments in the study process?
In the beginning of each semester, students with functional limitations who require adjustments in the study process are invited to submit a free-form application and attach relevant medical documentation (such as a specialist’s conclusion or medical extract on what university has to do to accommodate the needs).
The application form is available in E-studies under “Applications and inquiry requests” → “Study process applications” → “Free-form submission.”
Applications are reviewed by a dedicated commission, which decides on the necessary adjustments to support the student during their studies.
