International Museum Day, celebrated on 18th May, serves as a reminder to the world that museums play a crucial role in promoting preservation, cultural enrichment, traditions, mutual understanding, cooperation, peace, and sustainable development.

Several years ago, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) History Museum started a tradition of inviting all students, lecturers, and staff, both current and former, to donate memories of their Alma Mater and workplace to the Museum on this day. What will be the legacy of our time? What special memories will we have for ourselves and what will we tell future generations? If you help, the Museum can structure these questions for you.

Everyone is welcome to visit the Museum and hand over significant historical evidence, whether an object or a story about RSU, on Thursday, 18 May, from 9:00 to 12:00 at the Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) (26A Anniņmuižas bulvāris, Room 012) and from 13:30 to 17:00 at 16 Dzirciema iela (RSU History Museum, permanent exhibition, K-102).

We would especially like to invite RSU lecturers to hand in video recordings of lectures that were made in spring 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic started and studies had to be conducted remotely. These recordings hold special value, even if, or perhaps especially because, they capture phrases such as "Can you hear me? Can everyone see me? Is my screen visible?" or " This is our first online lecture. I hope the internet will not let us down…” Preserving such recordings from the early stages of online education is essential, as they reflect a pivotal moment when long-established study procedures underwent a complete transformation. These changes have now become an enduring part of education.

We also invite you to enrich the museum's collection Izcilas personības (Outstanding Personalities) with historical evidence of exceptional lecturers who students admire and who are related to our university from 1950 to the present. Additionally, we are looking to supplement the collection RSU struktūrvienības (RSU Units) with evidence of laboratories and scientific departments, such as the Central Scientific Research Laboratory that operated at the Rīga Medical Institute / Latvian Academy of Medicine (former names for RSU) from 1963 to 1993.

On Inernational Museum Day, visitors to the History Museum (at 16 Dzirciema iela) will have the opportunity to hear 10 stories about various RSU symbols. The tours are scheduled to start at 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00, each lasting 45 minutes.
