The foundation of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Medical Academy of Latvia / Rīga Stradiņš University in 1998 became an important milestone in the historical development of the University. The novelty was not only the introduction of social sciences programmes and hence the name changed to the university but also the organisation of social science studies according to the modular system. Within the framework of one semester students have to take two study courses, doing a lot of independent studies, whereas the lecturer takes the role of an advisor and expert.

This exhibition outlines the relationship between students and teaching staff. As the former Rector (1992–2007), Professor Jānis Vētra mentioned in the interview, “in the social sciences section, just like in medicine, the teaching staff and students not only address each other as a colleague from the first day of studies, but also establish relatively close intercommunication, which, along with benefits, also involves certain risks. While everything is fine, it contributes to a climate of cooperation and trust, however it makes more difficult to solve conflicts.”

The exhibition is organised by RSU Museum in cooperation with the Faculty of European Studies and the Faculty of Communication. Special gratitude to Ilze Speķe and Līga Kore for their responsiveness.

The exhibition is open from 28 August to 23 November 2018.
