On 11 March representatives from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) participated in the inauguration event of the international project Europartner which was organised by the University of Lodz (Poland). Within the framework of the project a consortium composed of research institutions from seven countries was established with the aim to foster collaboration in research and provide doctoral students with opportunities to go on exchange trips and develop their skills. The consortium will develop joint research projects, draft project applications for international research grants and ensure exchange trips for doctoral students.

The project is funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The Department of Biology and Environmental Protection at the University of Lodz under the leadership of Professor Maria Bryszewska, is the project’s initiator. Lead researcher from the RSU Department of Pathology, Maria Issaguliantis, led the project from the RSU side. 

The following institutions are included in the consortium alongside the University of Lodz and RSU:  the University of Oslo (Norway), the University of Alcalá and HGUGM-IiSGM Research Institute (Spain) and the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Europartner.jpgThe project’s inauguration event was opened by the rector of the University of Lodz Prof. Antoni Różalski then representatives from the consortium members presented their institutions and signed a memorandum of understanding. The director of the RSU International Department, Baiba Pētersone (pictured middle), informed participants about RSU activities, the university’s research priorities and put forward proposals for further cooperation, while the lead researcher of the RSU Institute of Oncology, Zanda Daneberga, elaborated on research directions and future development trends in the field of oncology.

The inauguration event was followed by a project launch meeting. During the meeting project partners approved a steering committee composed of representatives of all partner institutions, discussed project strategy, a schedule, the drafting of project reports, financial management and other project related matters as well as allocated responsibilities.

Asja Lunga, Project Manager of the RSU Development and Project Department, was appointed Europartner project administrator as the RSU representative.
