Objective

Enable students to correctly apply medical terminology in English and Latin and promote its practical use; to integrate the acquired knowledge and skills in other study courses acquisition as well as in research; to apply the knowledge and skills in professional settings.

Prerequisites

The knowledge of the English language as required in secondary school programme.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Having completed the course, students will know: • the rules of spelling and pronunciation of medical terminology in the English and Latin languages; •the Latin language grammar rules of agreement in producing anatomical terminology; •the rules of structuring and interpreting anatomical and clinical terminology in the Latin and English languages; •the rules of translating anatomical and clinical terminology in the Latin language; •students will also know medical terminology in the English and Latin languages which is most commonly used in research and vocational settings.

Skills

Having completed the course, students will be able to: • correctly read, interpret, write and use medical terminology in the English and Latin languages; • identify, produce, classify, and compare medical terminology in the English and Latin languages; • read, understand, and analyse field specific texts in the English language; • write summaries of research articles and presentations; • express one's ideas and put forward arguments to justify one's opinion on vocational subjects with the use of appropriate language structures in English; • give instructions to patients in need for musculoskeletal rehabilitation in English; give a presentation based on individually collected information in English.

Competence

Having completed the course, students will be able to correctly use anatomical and clinical terminology in the English and Latin language as well as practically apply the acquired knowledge and skills in academic, research, and vocational settings.
