Statistics Unit will participate in EUROMENE project
RSU Statistics Unit of the Faculty of Medicine and A. Kirchenstein Institute of Microbiology and Virology will represent Latvia in the COST Action project EUROMENE (European Network on myalgic encephalomyelitis and chronic fatigue syndrome ME/CFS). The main objective of the EUROMENE is to establish a common European platform of researchers ME/CFS in order to address the research challenges of unknown aetiology, lack of diagnostic biomarkers and limited options of treatment that refer to results in high socioeconomic impact.
This COST Action was established in 2016 and 15 European Union countries participate in this project. RSU coordinates this COST activity; moreover, Assoc. Prof. Modra Murovska is elected as the head of the EUROMENE project. In order to successfully implement all the project activities 6 research groups were created which are responsible for epidemiology, biomarkers, soico-economics, clinical research and diagnostic criteria, communication as well as results dissemination and utilisation.
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a complex disease characterised by chronic fatigue, muscle pains, weakness as well as problems with memory and concentration. The EUROMENE platform will provide information on the prevalence of CFS, reflecting possible treatment methods, which would allow patients to recover from the disease.
